  • The early generations of this family are poorly documented. The earliest known ancestor only appears as "E." in the census. The family appears in Newberry county, from where it spreads out into Saluda county. Given the time and place, E. could be another son of John & Edna Manning Parrott, Richard of Middlesex family, but this is pure speculation at this point. Absent a paper record, only Y-DNA can match it to its correct family.

  • 1. E. Parrott was born in 1804 in South Carolina.

    General Notes: Known only from the 1850 census. His parents are unknown.

    A group of Parrotts from Halifax Co., VA had settled previously in Newberry county, on the Enoree river.

    These were brothers Thomas and John Parrott, and their first cousin Elijah.

    Thomas (~1844 - 1806) moved to Newberry Co. by 1785, and to Glynn Co., GA ca 1801.

    Elijah (~1857 - aft 1806) moved to Newberry Co. by 1786, then to Chatham Co., GA by 1802, and on to Jackson Co., TN, by 1806.

    John ( b ~1766) was in Newberry by 1790. The fate of John is unknown. Unless E. was born elsewhere and moved to Newberry, the most likely person to have been E.'s father is John. He would have been ca 41 years old when E. was born. John's brothers were probably too old to have been E.'s father.

    =====
    In addition, there was a Charles Parrott who lived in nearby Beaverdam Creek, and who died ca 1788. Documents only name one heir, Daniel. Daniel is another candidate to be E.'s father. However, while John shows up as a name among E.'s descendants, Charles and Daniel do not show up as names.

    E. married Betsey Parrott. Betsey was born in 1810 in South Carolina. Another name for Betsey was L.

    General Notes: 1850 census, she is shown as L, b 1825. Not sure if this birthdate is correct. If it is, then E. must have had a first wife who was the mother to his children.

    In the 1860 census, she gives her age as 50, meaning a birth in 1810, closer to what is expected.
