This is one of the smaller families, and the only Parrott family to arrive from Germany since colonial times. Ferdinand, its founder, arrived with an uncle Christian, and Christian's wife, Wilhelmina, around the turn of the century. Their fate remains unkonwn. Ferdinand settled in New Jersey.

  • 1. Ferdinand Parrott, son of Parrott, was born on 5 Nov 1882 in Wurttemburg, Germany and died in 1939 in New Jersey at age 57.

General Notes: Arrival 5 Sep 1895, unaccompanied, age 14

Ferdinand married Augusta N. Jenne. Augusta was born in Jul 1884 in New Jersey and died in 1945 in New Jersey at age 61.

General Notes: With Five Sons In The Service, Widow's House May Yet Be Saved
Assistance from a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur La Chappelle of Hasbrouck Heights, may save the home of 60-year-old Mrs. Augusta Parrott until her five sons come home from the war.

The yellow brick home at 19 Seventy-seventh Street, North Bergen, where Mrs. Parrott reared her five sons, is scheduled for sale at auction by the City of North Bergen next Monday. The La Chappelles are bidding on the home in an effort to save it.

"I wouldn;t mind losing the house myself," Mrs. Parrot saaid today, "but my boys love their home. How would they feel if they were out fighting for it and they came back and it wasn't there." Her boys are Storekeeper First Class Ferdinand, now in the South Pacific; Corporal Louis and Private Charles in France; Corporal William at Camp Carson, Colo., and Corporal Neal, at Camp Grant, Ill.

Mrs. Parrott and her husband, Ferdinand, for 43 years a blacksmith in Hoboken, bought the 8-room home for $14,000 in 1929, just before the depression.

"After that," Mrs. Parrott said, "we had so many troubles that life itself was like a war."

Ida, a 20, Mrs. Parrott's youngest daughter, got rheumatic fever, and the money that been set aside for taxes had to be used for doctor bills, Mrs. Parrott said. When Ida began to recover, Mr. Parrott contracted a lingering illness, and again the tax money had to go for medical costs, this time for several years, until his death in 1939.

The home was taken over by the township in 1935 for back taxes. "They let me live here and I paid a rent of $25 a month with the help of my sons," Mrs. Parrott said.

"When the war came adn the boys left home Ida became sick," Mrs. Parrott continued.

"I had to have an operation, and even with the boy's allotment, I couldn't keep on paying the rent. The city was wonderful. They let me live here free with Ida, but last week they told me they had a bid on the house and they would have to sell it. Then my daughter and son-in-law sold some stock to try and keep the house for me.

Mrs. Parrott and the La Chapelles spoke with Commissioner John J. Roe, director of public affairs for North Bergen, yesterday, and made a bid on the house.

"Mayor Paul Cullum and the other commissioners all wanted us to get it, so auction or no auction, I guess we will." Mrs. La Chappelle said.

    The Record, 08 May 1984, p C2

    Ferdinand married Lenore Gertrude Riedinger on 1 Dec 1945 in Jersey City, Hudson Co., New Jersey. Lenore was born on 24 May 1917 in Jersey City, Hudson Co., New Jersey and died on 19 Apr 2021 in Denville, Morris Co., New Jersey at age 103. {FGID: 225917955}

General Notes: Lenore Gertrude (Riedinger) Parrott died peacefully on April 19, 2021 at the age of 103 at The Oaks at Denville. Lenore was the last surviving member of her generation of the Riedinger and Parrott families.

The daughter of Arthur and Edna (McConville) Riedinger, Lenore was born at home with the assistance of a midwife on May 24, 1917, in Jersey City, NJ where she grew up as the oldest of four children. After graduating from William L. Dickinson High School in 1936, she worked as a comptometrist at Western Electric (Kearny) and at Macy's Herald Square Store (New York).

Lenore married Ferdinand (aka Ferdie, Fred) Parrott on December 1, 1945 at St. Michael's Church (Jersey City). A devoted wife to her husband and mom to her two daughters she resided in Hasbrouck Heights for 35 years, along with many members of the Parrott family, and spent summers at their home at Lake Shawnee. She was widowed in 1984, after 38 years of marriage. Lenore eventually moved to the Lake Forest section of Lake Hopatcong where she became an active member of the Golden Age Club of Milton/Jefferson. Later she moved to The Oaks in Denville, formerly Franciscan Oaks, where she earned the distinction as the most senior resident, having lived there 18 years. An active communicant, she was a member of Corpus Christi Church (Hasbrouck Heights) and Our Lady Star of the Sea Church (Lake Hopatcong).

A member of "the Greatest Generation" who lived through the Depression, Lenore had a real love and talent for the domestic arts: cooking, sewing, painting, wallpapering, gardening and reading. Having been taught wonderful German cooking by her mother-in-law, the late Augusta Jenne Parrott, she became the consummate cook, hosting and catering many annual family summer picnics at "The Lake". Although largely a stay-at-home mom, she volunteered in her daughters' activities and later returned to work at Bamberger's (Paramus). Lenore loved to travel and made multiple trips to Hawaii with her husband and members of the Parrott family. After being widowed, she continued to travel throughout the United States, Europe, China, and Australia. Because she was born on Queen Victoria's birthday, she was affectionately nicknamed Queenie by her grandmother, who had emigrated from England. The nickname stuck and even her great-grandchildren knew her as Queenie. A survivor of two pandemics, Lenore was too young to remember the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 but experienced the restrictions, isolation and vaccination with minimal understanding of the current Covid-19 Pandemic.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lenore is predeceased by her three brothers: Arthur Riedinger, John Riedinger and Edward Riedinger and her great-grandson, Connor Pym. Lenore is survived by her daughters Lenore Luckey (John [Jack]) of Madison and Edna Pym (Warren) of Vero Beach, Florida; her five grandchildren: Ryan Luckey (Tracy), Meghan Luckey Houston (William), Sean Luckey, Devon Pym (Melissa) and Caitlin Harris (Gregory); and her seven great-grandchildren: Mark Luckey, Liam Houston, Emily Houston, Owen Pym, Alexandria Pym, Christian Harris and Corinne Harris along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visitation on Friday, April 23 from 9-10 am at the Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Inc., 106 Main Street, Madison, New Jersey adhering to CDC Guidelines \endash Social Distancing & Masks Required. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Lenore's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, New York, New York 10001.
