    Notes:
THE BANKRUPTCY OF JABEZ PARROTT, OF ASHTON. - At the Ashton Police Court, on Thursday week, Jabez Parrott, greengrocer, of Ashton, a bankrupt, was charged with offences under the Debtors Act. Mr. John Whitworth, solicitor, said he appeared on behalf of the Treasury to proscute the defendant, who up to February, 1889, was a fruiterer and wholesale potato dealer in Stanford-street. On the 19th of February he absconded with a large sum of money, and on the 25th of February a creditor's petition in bankruptcty was presented against him by by a creditor of the name of Swift. On the 27th a receiving order was made against him. On the 1st of March he was adjudged bankrupt. On the 21st of Marchg a warrant was taken out against him, and upon that he was arrested in February last. It appeared that the went with a friend to Buenos Ayres, and came back some time last year. After he was arrested he purged his contempt by submitting himself to examination, and presented a statement of his affairs to the Court. This showed liabilities £1,009. 6s. 7d., and assets £3. But the assets had since been ascertained to amount to £90. 8s. 10d. During the course of his examinations, which were rather lengthy, it turned out tht that he had committed offences under the Debtor Act, 1869, and four summonses had been taken out. The first charged him with having on February 19, 1889, with intent to defraud his creditors, made over part of his property to amount of £30 to Jane Parrott, his wife, and he was charged that on that same date, with intent to defraud his creditors, he made a transfer of part of his property, two horses, two carts, a lurry, gears, and cart sheet, to the value of £80, to Thomas Kelly. Another summons charged him that within four months of presentation of the bankruptcy petition he concealed part of his property to the value of £90. Another summons charged him with fraudulently removing the same property. All these offences came under the Debtors Act, and the principal evidence consisted of the defendant's own admissions in the County Court. These were by section 17 of the Bankruptcy Act, 1873, made evidence against him. The prosecution was ordered by the County Court Judge upon the report of the Official Receiver in Bankruptcy. Evidence was given, and in the result the defendat was committed to his trial at the sessions, bail being allowed. [in £50, and two sureties of £25 each.]
