    General Notes: Ray Parrott, 63, of Cayuta RD 1, Tuesday, Mar. 17, 1953. A veteran of World Wars 1 and 2, Mr. Parrott served in the U.S. Navy. Survived by sister, Miss Carolyn Parrott of Cayuta RD 1; brothers, Burr and Albert Parrott, both of Cayuta RD 1, Judd Parrott of Horseheads RD 3; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The body is at Barber Funeral Home, Horseheads, where friends are invited to call after 7 p.m. today, and where funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Waldo H. Kihlstrom. Cayuta Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded at the grave by Company F, 108th Infantry, New York National Guard.

    United States Navy Lieutenant J.G. Ray Parrott (Service #146-64-50/C.S.C. #39552) was born January 3rd 1890 in Cayuta, N.Y.

    Ray enlisted in the Navy January 6th 1909 at 19 years old. He served on the Scout Cruiser U.S.S. Chester during hostilities with Mexico & he was issued Mexico Campaign Medal #12751 & on Jan. 5th 1917 Parrott was issued Good Conduct Medal C.S.C. 39552.

    A few months prior to the U.S. entering World War I Parrott reenlisted as an Electrician 1st Class, on January 6th 1917 aboard the U.S.S. Chester in Boston, Massachusetts. He served on the U.S.S. Chester until September 1st 1917 when he was temporarily transferred to the Receiving Ship, Boston where he served until Sept. 12th 1917 when he was transferred to the U.S.S. SALEM & promoted to Temporary Gunner Chief Electrician (General) on Sept 24th 1917. He remained on the U.S.S. Salem until Nov. 26th 1917 while she was decommissioned and towed to the Boston Navy Yard to have her original Curtis turbines replaced by General Electric turbines.

    Chief Parrott was Temporarily on Duty at Receiving Ship Boston, Massachusetts from Nov. 30th 1917 through March 9th 1918 awaiting further orders. On July 13th 1918 Chief Parrot was transferred to Elizabethport, New Jersey for Duty fitting out the Lapwing Class Minesweeper U.S.S. Flamingo. He remained aboard during her launch Aug. 24th 1918 & commissioning as U.S.S. Flamingo, Minesweeper No. 32, on February 12th 1919. For his service aboard the U.S.S. Flamingo, Parrott was Issued the World War I Victory Medal with "Mine Sweeping" Clasp, & World War I New York Service Medal #1277. Parrot was promoted to (temporary) Ensign in March 1st 1919 & served until he was discharged from the Navy July 10th 1922.

    Ensign Parrott registered for the World War II draft in 1942 & commissioned as a Lieutenant J.G. Aug. 7th 1942. Lt. J.G. Parrott was discharged from the Navy prior to the end of World War II on Dec. 31st 1944.

    United States Navy Lieutenant J.G. Ray Parrott passed away March 17th 1953 & he is buried in Cayuteville Cemetery, New York.

Judd was predeceased by his wife, Lulu in 2000, daughter Linda Gunning in 2011 and son, Frank Parrott 2001. He is survived by his daughter and son, Sue (Merle) Collins of Cayuta, NY, Ray (Joanne) Parrott of McAllen, TX; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and many great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also a US Army Veteran and lifetime member of Horseheads Snowmobile Club. Judd was retired from US Steel/ American Bridge Works in Elmira Heights and also a retired Dairy Farmer in Cayuta.     General Notes: Gunning, Linda A. Trumansburg: Linda A. Gunning of 14 Weatherby Rd, Trumansburg, passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Medical Center on Thursday, February 17, 2011, at the age of 65. Born on February 27, 1945 in Elmira, Linda was the daughter of Judd and Lula (Hull) Parrott. With a solid foundation of loving family values, instilled by her parents, Linda nurtured and enthusiastically supported her children and grandchildren. Her genuine interest in 4-H encouraged the children to do their best. Together, Linda and her husband Donald shouldered the countless details of operating their farm. With a keen sense of balance in life, the end of a hard day's work was often rewarded by an evening of family time. After Don passed away, Linda filled her free time by playing cards, bowling, or just fishing. She was an active member of the Living Water Christian Fellowship. A staple of farm and family, life revolved around the kitchen table where countless meals were served with love. Linda's infectious laugh, zest for fun, and a kitchen abounding in fabulous cooking attracted many. Known for her pancakes, homemade bread and sweet rolls, one never knew who might show up at mealtime. Linda's warm heart and genuine concern for others dovetailed perfectly with her position as a Family Liaison with Ithaca City School District's Pre-K Program. Her guidance will be sorely missed. In addition to her mother, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on February 14, 2002; a grandson, Ian and a brother, Frank. She is survived by her father, Judd of Cayuta; one son, Donny II (Karen) of Trumansburg; three daughters, Rebecca (Tom) Gunningsmith of Trumansburg, Teresa (Mike) Scholtisek of Odessa and Carrie DiStefano of Trumansburg; nine grandchildren, Damian (Lauren) Gunningsmith, Kyle, Ryan and Tyler Gunningsmith, Samantha (Greg) Jennings, Josh, Joe and Margaret Markley and Abigail Gunning; two great-grandchildren, Anastazia and Leonidas Jennings; one brother, Raymond (Joanne) Parrott of Cayuta; one sister, Susan (Merle) Collins of Cayuta; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. Linda's hope-filled spirit will continue to live on in the warmth of the hearts of those who knew and loved her.     27. Susan E. Parrott (Judd E.5, Judd Elston Sr.4, Jared3, John Albert2, Jared1) was born on 18 Jan 1947 in Cayuta, Schuyler Co., New York and died on 3 Mar 2018 in Cayuta, Schuyler Co., New York at age 71.

    General Notes: Cayuta - Susan (Parrott) Collins, 71, of Cayuta, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at home. She was born in Elmira on January 18, 1947, the daughter of the late Judd and Lulu (Hull)Parrott and graduated from Odessa-Montour Central School. She married Merle Collins on May 30, 1964 in Cayuta, NY.

    Sue was retired from food service and retail. She belonged to the Senior Bowling League, and loved fishing on the St. Lawrence with her husband, Merle. She also loved deer hunting, riding four wheeler, crocheting, bird watching, puzzles, dominos, and playing cards. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her beloved dog Toby.

    Sue is survived by her husband of 53 years, Merle Collins; two sons, Mark (Lisa) Collins of Alpine and John (Shannon) Collins of Cayuta; three daughters, Carol (David) Marsh of Alpine, Donna (Robert) Angle of Cayuta, and Christina (Joseph) Zimmer of Montour Falls; a brother, Raymond (Joanne) Parrott of McAllen, TX; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Linda (Donald) Gunning, and brother, Franklin (Sandy) Parrott.

    Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Funeral services will be private.
