Newton's primary education was mainly in the Bronx, New York; P.S. 78 elementary, Olinville Junior High and in completion, graduated from Evander High. Soon after, he attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. for a short period. There he enrolled in the ROTC. During the formative years, Newton was actively involved in baseball. He was a pitcher in Little League and Travel teams.He was also a true Yankee fan.

Afterwards Newton pursued a career as an airline customer-service agent. This gave him the opportunity to travel the world which he enjoyed immensely.Traveling to Acapulco, Egypt, Amsterdam, Denmark, to name a few places. His first airline job was with Eastern Airlines. Over the years the airline job also allowed him to live in New Orleans, San Francisco, and Chicago. Eventually hemoved back to New York City after retiring from Trans World Airlines (TWA).

Newton loved good food, to dance and listen to music. Tunes from the 60's and the Motown era were his favorite. As a health-conscious person, he was juicing fruits and vegetables long before it became a trend. He also liked to walk and exercise on a regular basis.

Left with cherished memories to mourn him: sister, Wanda Parrott-Osorio, Feodor Osorio (brother-in-law), brother, Louis Parrott (June), nephews whom lovinglycalled him Uncle Haywee, Terrel Parrott (Bianca), Greg Osorio, and Danny Parrott (Alexia). grand-nephew, Maxx Parrott and grand-niece, Sage Parrott. Along with countless cousins, other family members and friends.

Parrott was born in Darlington, North Carolina on March 20, 1920. He served in the United States Army and later was a caseworker for the Department of Social Services in New York. President Bill Clinton appointed him as a delegate to the White House Conference on the Aging.

He was affiliated with Zeta Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Jamaica Branch of the N.A.A.C.P, 369th Veteran's Association, Inc., Veteran of Foreign Wars of the United States, The American Legion, York College Alumni Association, Inc., Civil Service Working & Retired Employee Union. He was president of the Church Council, a Sunday School teacher, a board member of Wartburg Lutherans Services (Meals on Wheels) in Brooklyn, a volunteer Social Worker at Allen, Jackson, Rockaway and Queens Hospital Centers helping seniors access the system, and sat on the Veterans Committee for Senator Malcolm Smith and Assemblyman William Scarborough.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine.

Parrott is survived by his son, Monroe Parrott; daughter, Joan Parrott-Fonseca; granddaughters, Julia Parrott and Casandra Tucker; his late wife's cousin, Velmer Canady; brothers, Edward, Allen and Earl; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. Visitation and services were held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in St. Albans. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.
