This is another of the Parrott families of French origin, and settled in the Kansas by 1848, and then moved to Iowa. It is one of the smaller Parrott families.

There are other families that also came from Audincourt, as did this family: see families 14 and 93. At this point, it is not possible to tell based on the paper record alone if these families are related. Therefore, a Y-DNA test from each would be the best way to tell.

  • DNA testing needed for this family. If you are a male from this line, sign up to get tested and thus help uncover its history and origins.

Notes: GIRL FOUND ON HIGHWAY CANNOT EXPLAIN PLIGHT

Clarinda, Ia., Sept. 16. - Miss Sylvia Parrott, as telephone operator of this city, was found by a gang of readmakers lying unconscious at the roadside, 14 miles from her home in Clarinda, and near Newmarket. Miss Parrott reached home about 11 o'clock at night, worn out from her day's work, and she threw herself down on the bed by the side of a brother, and fell asleep without undressing. The girl declares she does not know how she got to that faraway point in the few hours intervening between her lying down and morning. She was in a semi-conscious condition from some drug, apparently Sheriff Whitmore, who was summoned when the girl was found, is working on the case.

Notes: Jonnie Allen Parrott was born September 26, 1954 in Page County, Iowa, to LeRoy and Doris Marie (Schollian) Parrott. As his mother was hurried to the hospital in labor, Jon got a tad impatient and arrived in the back of a 1948 Plymouth, near the old dump bridge. Having dirt, straw and various other items stuck to him from the car delivery, he was denied entry into the hospital nursery for fear of contaminating the 'clean' babies. His mother was told he would have to room with her. After a bit of 'discussion' it was decided he would indeed be allowed to occupy the sterile nursery and life began! He lived his entire life in Clarinda, Iowa, and graduated from Clarinda High School with the Class of 1972.

Shortly after graduating high school, Jon was employed by the Clarinda Community School District as a custodian and later drove a school bus for special needs children. He loved the students and they could always count on him to look at most any situation from their point of view. He had your back. Because after all, Jon's motto has always been, "If the cops didn't see me… I didn't do it". He retired from the school after 35 years.

Stock car racing was in his blood. It started with his father and then was passed down to Jon and his brother Ermal. They raced for several years before handing over the reins to their nephew, Shannon Walter. When Shannon quit racing, Jon's nephew Rick Ritchie decided to buy a car and give it a whirl. With Jon's help, they purchased another car, which Rick is still racing to this day and is currently tied for 3rd in points at Adams County Speedway. Through the years, the #10 car is still speeding around the track!

He loved his family and he loved family gatherings. He was especially close to his many nieces and nephews and was famous for making up fun and silly games the kids would beg to play again and again. Old Blind Horse was always a favorite. Jon was a kind and generous man, both to his family and to strangers. He enjoyed going to the casinos on occasion, even though, more often than not, he came home with less money than he went with!

One of Jon's greatest assets was his wonderful sense of humor. He was fun loving and easy to visit with and you could always count on him for a laugh. Jokingly known by his family for his ability to retain "useless information", Jon was the go-to-guy for those perplexing questions that had everyone else stumped. He would have definitely been the "friend to phone" for the million bucks!

Jon peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Lincoln, Nebraska at Bryan LGH Medical Center West. He is preceded in death by his father LeRoy; paternal grandparents: Everette and Ora Parrott; maternal grandparents: Harold and Elsie Schollian; baby sister Goldie Parrott; sister Marilyn Walter; uncles: Marvin, Bert and Pete; brother-in-law Raymond Mick; and niece Dara Dalene.

Left to cherish Jon's memory is his mother Doris Parrott of Clarinda; sisters: Marian Mick of Skidmore, MO, Joann Crawley of Clarinda and Jeannie Ritchie of Bedford; brothers: Ermal Parrott of Clarinda and Kelly Parrott and wife Sharon of New Market; brother-in-law Marty Walter of Clarinda; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Jon were held Friday, July 27, 2012 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with the burial following the service at the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Relay for Life.

Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
