General Notes: Russell Ernest "Russ" Parrott Jr. (1928 - 2016)

He had a dry sense of humor, was moved by all forms of beauty, appreciated music, was crazy about football, and was so very kind to everyone. He was an unassuming "tall, dark and handsome" man with unruly hair who often wore his pants just a little too short. Russ had a special family history; his mom's family came from Chile during the 49er Gold Rush and settled in Sacramento and his dad was from New Jersey and was a boat pilot on the Sacramento River. He graduated from McClatchy High School, attended UC Davis and was an Air Force pilot during the Korean Conflict. As a young man he picked pears in the Delta and worked at Crystal Creamery. He later became a dairy inspector before changing careers "at the last minute" to become a proud Sacramento City Firefighter. He loved his firefighter career and became a well-respected chief arson investigator. He was born October 1, 1928 in Sacramento and was known as "Sonny" by his beloved parents the late Bernice (Cifuentes) and Russell E. Parrott, Sr., and is survived by his younger brother, Richard Rae (Judy). He met Roberta Peck on bus #2 and their flirtation led to his first marriage and the birth of his three daughters; Julie Watson (Darryl), Michelle Barraza (Eddie) and Christine Soto (Mike). He also had a son, Dwayne Schneider (Rosie), who looks so much like him and is just as kind and good. After his divorce, he met Jan Brown during a fire inspection at the building where she worked. Their romance led to a loving marriage lasting over 43 years and he became a father figure to her children, Wayne, Eric (Janine) and Audrey. Russ and Jan collected antiques, art and traveled to England often where they enjoyed the friendliness of the people there. They lived the last 30 years in the home designed by Jan that they built together on the Hood Canal. Sadly, Russ passed away on August 25 in Bremerton with his wife, daughters and son-in-law Eddie by his side. He is now reunited with his parents and baby granddaughter, Rachel Sanchez along with his loyal firefighter "brother," Bill Bruce and his special Aunt Veeda. He will be missed forever by his devoted wife, Jan and by his children and step-children. His memory will be kept alive for years to come by his grandchildren: Brienne Lake (Mark), Joshua Chacon (Noelle), Caleb Waters (Megean), Desiree Hernandez (Eric), Julian Sanchez (fiancee, Tiffany) and Haley Barraza; and by his great-grandchildren: Penelope and Isaiah Lake, Damien and Dylan Chacon, Avery and Aaron Waters, and Jaxon Sanchez. Please join us to celebrate the life of this special man at 11:00 a.m. on October 15th at Holy Spirit Church, 3159 Land Park Drive; reception immediately following Mass.
