Harper Benson Parrott, 24 years old, a first-class fireman attached to the U.S.S. Louisiana, and son of Mr. and Mrs. George Parrott, 716 Arlington avenue, was drowned July 7 at an American port. His parents were advised of the accident by a telegram and a letter from the Navy Department yesterday.
The accident resulted from Parrott losing his balance while standing up in the steam launch of the battleship, which was conveying several of the crew to the larger ship. His companions saw him fall into the water and heard him shout for help. Two life belts were thrown to him and two officers and a seaman dived overboard to his assistance. He disappeared under the waves, however, before they could reach him and did not come to the surface again. The body has not been recovered.
Young Parrott enlisted in the navy at the Baltimore recruiting statiion September 13, 1915. Just two weeks ago he visited his parents while on a short leave of absence and has written to them several times since. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Parrott, and four sisters, Mrs. J.K. Sparrow, Mrs. Helen Binnix, Mrs. Florence Hall, and Miss Jessie E. Parrott.

After his retirement in 1966 he made his home in Oxford where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and crabbing.
The former Ida Cecilia Uskander, whom he married in 1929, died May 1984.
Mr. Parrott is survived by a brother, Isaac T. Parrott of Oxford, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Vernon L. Schmid, minister of Oxfored United Methodist Church, where he was a member, will officiate. Burial will be at Oxford Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Born near Trappe on May 6, 1910, he was the son of the late Clarence Herbert and Martha Towers Parrott. After attending public school, he worked as a carpenter and made his home in the Easton area. In 1941, he moved to Baltimore, where he worked as a carpenter until 1943. Then he moved to Oxford, where he worked as a waterman until retiring in 1976. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church.
Mr. Parrott is survived by his wife, the former Nellie Emma Dobson, whom he married in January 1939; two brothers, C. Linwood Parrott and Isaac T. Parrott, both of Oxford, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Newnam Funeral Home in Easton, where friends may call at 10 a.m. The Rev. John W. She was born at Lloyds on March 6, 1917, and was a daughter of the late Wilbert Clayton Parrott and the late Sallie Spedden North Parrott Marshall.
She attended elementary schools at Hudson and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935. On June 4, 1940, she was married to Arthur M. Brooks. Mr. Brooks passed away on December 16, 1998. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Whitehaven United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Church Creek Fire Co. Some years ago she worked at the Rob Roy Co in Cambridge and also worked at Leonard Simmons Canning House as well as the Maryland Department of Forest & Parks working at the Church Creek Fire Tower. Mrs. Brooks had worked with her husband in the family business for many years. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, crocheting, bowling and cooking. Mrs. Brooks had been in failing health for the past several months and had been a patient at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge for the past month where she passed away on Monday morning.
Survivors include a son Robert M. "Bobby" Brooks and his wife Deanna Brooks of Church Creek, one daughter Doris Brooks Brashier and her husband Lee Brashier of New Bern, N.C., two grandchildren Bonnie Howard of Church Creek and Barbara Stack and her husband Steve Stack of East New Market, four great grandchildren, C.J. Howard, Bobbi Lee Howard, Stephen Stack and Trevor Stack. She is also survived by a brother Charles Marshall and his wife Deanna Marshall of Cambridge. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters Martha Wright and Margaret Mills and one brother Wilbur Parrott, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home. Mrs Parrott, who was 68 and lived in Back River, died Friday at St. Joseph Hospital of Lou Gehrig's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The former Mary Stansbury was born and raised in Essex. After her marriage in 1926 to Robert A. Parrott Sr., she moved to Trappe, Md., where Mr. Parrott, who died last March, worked as a farmer.
Three years later Mr. and Mrs. Parrott returned to the Baltimore area, working as caretakers of Potter's Farm, the present location of Towson State University.
The Parrotts opened a store in 1943 at their house at 1015 Back River Neck road. What began as a vegetable stnd and ice house grew into Parrott's Grocery Store.
Mrs. Parrott is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Betty Borsos, Mrs. Jean Mathew, Miss Martha Parrott, and Mrs. Mary Lee Stilson, all of Essex, and Mrs. Estelle Smith of Atlanta; two sons, Wilbur C. Parrott, of Houston, and Robert A. Parrott Jr. of Essex; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Trappe High School Class of 1942. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in World War II. He worked in upholstery for over 60 years and served in maintenance at Crusader Arms in Cambridge for over 24 years. His hobbies included stamp and coin collecting and antiques.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bertie Wooters Parrott whom he married on June 22, 1946; three children, Martha E. Sharpe and her husband Robert of Salisbury, Harry C. Parrott, III of New Hampshire, and Kimberly A. Murphy and her husband Scott of Galestown; three grandchildren, Jennifer Russell (Nat) of Boston, Mass., Christopher D. "Danny" Murphy and Todd C. Murphy, both of Galestown; three great-grandchildren, Brody, Lilly, and Noah; a sister, Nellie Hughes of Hebron; and several nieces and nephews. Two siblings preceded him in death, William Spedden and Lucille Garrett.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Scott Murphy officiating. Interment with military honors followed in Junior Order Cemetery in Preston.

She loved her cats, doing crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, and sewing. Her biggest passion was her grandchildren whom she adored.
She is survived by three children, Martha E. Sharpe and her husband Robert C. of Salisbury, Harry C. Parrot III of Nashua, N.H., and Kimberly A. Murphy of Galestown; three grandchildren, Jennifer Russell and her husband Nat of Atlanta, Ga., Christopher D. "Danny" Murphy of Galestown and Todd C. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late Clinton Casper Parrott Sr.and the late Lida Evans Parrott. Mr. Parrott was a carpenter. He served his country for four years in the United States Marines and four years in the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Parrott was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Grimes Parrott.
Survivors include his son, Clinton "Little Bud" Parrott III, Baltimore, Maryland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:45 A.M. Monday, June 22, 2015, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Boone Dam V.F.W. He was a life member of the Trappe Volunteer Fire Company and was inducted into the Eastern Shore Volunteer Fireman's Association Hall of Fame in 2002, as well as the Talbot County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

She later worked for 15 years in the St. Michaels Elementary and Middle School cafeteria. Mr. Parrott, to whom she was married for 50 years, died June 15, 2003.
A member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in St. Michaels, she was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the E.E Streets Memorial Post 5118 VFW and the American Legion Auxiliary in Easton.
Mrs. Parrott is survived by her son, Wesley Parrott Jr. and his wife Joyce of Easton; her daughter, Judith Ann Schwaninger and her husband Walt of Trappe; a brother, Gilbert Newnam of Fruitland; two sisters, Barbara Burkhardt of Royal Oak and Mary Young of Easton; three granddaughters, Rachel Coursey (Chase), Katherine Parrott and Rebecca Schwaninger; and two great-grandsons, John Deale Coursey and Wyatt Avery Coursey.

Born in Talbot County on Sept. 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Isaac and Lillian Arrington Parrott. "Snookie" attended Talbot County public schools. In the mid-1950s, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While serving in the military, he completed his education and was awarded a high school diploma from the Talbot County Board of Education.
Following his release from active duty in 1957, he returned to his beloved Talbot County where on Aug. 31 of that same year, he married Anita Newnam. They made their home briefly in St. Michaels and then in Neavitt. "Snookie" was a gifted carpenter. For the majority of his working life, he was employed by Harry T. Ball of St. Michaels. He also enjoyed fishing, crabbing and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Anita, "Snookie" is survived by a son, Tommy Parrott (Rhonda) of Neavitt; a sister, Elizabeth "sister" Barrow of Oxford; two brothers, Philip Parrott (Prissy) of Easton and Charles "Cheatie" Parrott (Pat) of Royal Oak; two grandchildren, Krystal and Shawn; a special niece and nephew that he thought of as grandchildren, Danny Ball (Kristen) and Julie Ball; and a sister-in-law that he thought of as a daughter, Willa Newnam Ball (David) of Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at the Hurley & Ostrowski Funeral Home P.A. St. Michaels where friends may call Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service.

Born in Easton on February 4, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William and Elva Jones Newnam. A lifelong resident of Neavitt Anita graduated from St. Michaels High School. After graduating she worked briefly at a local sewing factory, she then began a career in Banking with the then St. Michaels Bank. Mrs. Parrott held a variety of positions there upon retirement she was C.E.O. On August 31, 1957, she married Hughlett T. "Snooky" Parrott. Mr. Parrott died on October 11, 2010.
Mrs. Parrott or Anita as she was known by everyone, loved the outdoors especially fishing, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son; H. Thomas "Tommy" Parrott, Jr. (Rhonda) of Neavitt one sister; Willa Ball (David) of Mississippi, two grandchildren; Kris Parrott of Neavitt, Shawn Jones of Virginia one nephew; Danny Ball (Kristen) and their son Daniel Jacob Ball of Virginia Beach. He was employed with Coca Cola, retiring in 2014 after 35 years of service and was currently employed at the Caroline County Roads Department.
Wes enjoyed spending time with his grandson Parker and woodworking. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce; his daughter, Katherine Leonard and her husband, Nicholas; and only grandchild, Parker; his sister, Judy Schwaninger and her husband Walt, of Easton; and two nieces.
A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, February 10th, 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1210 S. Washington St., Easton. Burial will be private.
