This is a small African-American family that was established after the Civil War, but remains extremely poorly documented, with most records gone, if they ever existed, which makes it very difficult to reconstruct its family tree. Therefore, the information presented here is still very incomplete, and most of what is here needs further verification. Its earliest known ancestor is Joe, who would have been born about a generation befoe the Civil War.

There are other African American families that originated in Darlington, South Carolina, but thus far, the paper record does not connect them. It is not known if these families are related to each other or to the pre-Civil War Parrott family of Darlington. Only a Y-DNA test will be able to tell if they are related or not. These families are identified according to their earliest known ancestor:

  • DNA testing needed for this family. If you are a male from this line, sign up to get tested and thus help uncover its history and origins.

       47 M    ii. Gregory Parrott was born on 21 Apr 1947 in Bronx Co., New York and died on 21 Feb 2022 in New York, at age 74. {Find A Grave ID: 236988806}

    .Notes: .Gregory Parrott was a captivating soul. He represented big love. Greg had a strong adoration for his families: the family he was born into and raised out of, the family he created, his NA family, his neighborhood family and his church family.

    Greg or "Dirty Red" as he was often called was born in the Bronx, New York on April 21, 1947 to Emily Marie Parrott and Edward Hunter Parrott, Sr. He was the second eldest child of the five children born to Emily and Edward. Greg and his siblings were very close. They spent a significant portion of their childhood living in the Bronx, in Harlem and then in New Jersey with many memories and friendships developed in the Grant Houses on West 125th Street and LaSalle, not far from where he would end up living until his sunset.

    Greg served honorably in the United States Army. He welcomed a son, Maurice Savage, with Barbara Savage on January 7, 1980 and a daughter, Taboo Irby, with Meriah Irby on May 7, 1980.

    Greg was very vocal about his challenges with addiction, homelessness, his love for his church and his blessed road to recovery through the NA Program. His recovery journey became the vessel through which he mentored those who came after him in the Program. He formed some of his most beautiful relationships through the Program including his dear friendship with his "roll-dog" Sheila Carrington. Greg became Sheila's most-trusted friend and her daughter's godfather (Charlii Everett) in 1995.

    Greg appreciated family and spoke of his family often. He had a special relationship with his only niece Melissa, his sister Marilyn and her late life-partner "Sonny" during his road to recovery that included having family dinner with them every Sunday and bonding time with his niece Melissa over the board game "Sorry" and the 90's television show "In Living Color".

    Greg met his loving soul mate and partner Soraya "Tata" Rios in 1994. Greg and Tata would grow in their love and union for decades, embracing and helping raise her children Jasmine and Ullyssa and her grandchildren, Davine, Donni and Donald Lee. Greg and Tata were dedicated to each other and he transitioned on February 21, 2022 comfortably with her by his side.

    Greg became a member of Second Canaan Baptist Church (SCBC) on April 17, 2011 under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Wesley Wilson, Jr. He was baptized following his commitment to SCBC at King of Kings Gospel Temple in Hackensack, New Jersey. Greg enthusiastically became a part of many ministries at Second Canaan Baptist Church. Greg was a part of the Men's' Ministry where he served as financial secretary and treasurer for the last 10 years. He also held the roles of Kingdom Security, Choir Member, a Faithful Servant in the Healing Hands ministry and the Bereavement team. He was most proud of his leadership training within the church, DIT (Deacon-In-Training).
    Greg's force of courage, strength, grit and love will remain in our minds forever. He radiated empathy, understanding, big love, loyalty, a true appreciation for Harlem, a deep entrepreneurial spirit and perfect imperfection.

    Greg at Sunset went on to join his parents, the late Emily Marie Parrott and Edward Hunter Parrott, Sr.; his late brother, Edward Parrott, Jr.; and his sister, Delana Parrott.
    He leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories, the following family members who will truly miss him: his devoted soul mate and partner, Soraya "Tata" Rios; his son, Maurice Savage; daughter, Taboo Irby; his twin sisters, Marilyn Parrott and Jacquelyn Huggins; his only niece, Melissa Emily Mitchell; his grandchildren, Iyanna Savage-Clark, Tyshaun Irby, Terrion Gilbert, Torien, Irby, Tayler Irby, Tyrece Gilbert, Ayshani Irby, Davine Williams, Donni Soraya Odom, and Donald Lee Odom III; his great-niece, Mecca Aayan Mitchell-Johns; his great-nephew, Salaam Latif Mitchell-Johns; his goddaughter, Charlii Everett; as well as a host of other relatives and dear friends that will also truly miss him.

    .Notes: .Jacquelyn Curly Huggins was a loving, passionate and devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was a beautiful soul that embraced each role with much passion, much love, much endurance and much strength.

    "Jacque", "Beav", "Auntie", "Jacko" and "Shorty 2" as she was often referred to by family and friends throughout her life was born in the Bronx, New York at Morrisania Hospital on July 25, 1951, three long minutes before her twin sister and wombmate Marilyn. She was the second youngest of her five siblings and stood proud in her role as little sister to Butch, Delana and Gregory and big sister to her identical twin Marilyn. Jacque spent a significant portion of her childhood (with her parents Emily Marie Parrott and Edward Hunter Parrott, Sr. and her four siblings) living in the Bronx, in Harlem and then in New Jersey with many memories and friendships developed in the Grant Houses on West 125th & LaSalle Street. Of these friendships formed, Jacque would remain in touch with her dear friends Carolyn Lynch-Khera, Daphne Bailey and Butch Coleman until her Sunset.
    Jacque accomplished many accolades early on and established other long friendships along the way. She graduated from Teaneck High School in Teaneck, New Jersey in June of 1969. She made her debut alongside her peers at her cotillion and was supported by organizations such as the NAACP and the Urban League. She attended Bay State College in the Dorchester section of Massachusetts to concentrate in business and even went back to school (Lincoln Tech) in her later years to pursue medical coding & billing. She established a career decades long as a legal secretary working for various New York based law firms and developed a tenacious drive for staying busy while embracing fashion and fun along the way. Even through her illness, she worked. She loved her independence, her family and friends, her jobs, her apartment(s) and shopping.

    She is recognized for her inside and outside beauty, her intelligence, her big heart, her feistiness, her loyalty, her strength, her ability to have fun and her smile. She was ultra opinionated and strong-willed but graceful and dainty all at the same. She was the life of the party. She loved riding with the top down in her Mazda Miata. She loved Brooklyn's Pizza and Bonchon Chicken. She had to buy two or three of everything but budgeted though she spent. She was a great host who embraced a love for cooking like her father, the late Edward Parrott, Sr. She was a loyal and thoughtful friend. Jacque created many travel memories with her niece, her sister and many of her friends in the States and abroad. She loved her high-school reunion cookouts at Bear Mountain where she would reunite with many of her Teaneck High School buddies. She brought her family each time making it a warm and embracing tradition.
    Jacque in her 72 years of life impacted many people through her friendships, relationships and acquaint encounters. She was married for a short time in 1975 and had a few long-term loves. When she fell ill, she was embraced by her team of nurses in hospice care and warmed their hearts with her ability to fight the good fight and have a great attitude about it along the way. Jacque's God Squad is a group of family and close friends that dedicated time to be by Jacque's side through this great fight. She was grateful to the God Squad (Carolyn, Melissa, Kim, Phyllis and Marilyn) and others who checked in on her regularly with a visit to her home or a visit to the hospital to give love and support. Jacque is a true example of a warrior, a queen, a forever friend and angel to all of us.
    Jacque is predeceased by her parents, Emily Marie Parrott and Edward Hunter Parrott, Sr., her two brothers Gregory Parrott and Edward "Butch" Parrott, Jr. and her sister Delana Parrott. Jacque is survived by her twin sister Marilyn Parrott, her nieces Melissa Mitchell and Tabu Irby, her nephew Maurice Savage, her great-nieces and nephews, her cousins and a host of very dear friends who love and miss her deeply.
