This is another of the African American families that appeared after the Civil war. The patriarch for this family is thought to be James Ishmeal, b ~1780 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia. James has been traced to a William Parrott in Lunenburg Co., Virginia, who moved his family and slaves to Mississippi ca. 1839 (Collier, 2016). William's ancestors were from Rockingham Co., North Carolina, where they first appear in the historical record. His descendants settled in Madison and Scott counties, Mississippi. This tree is still very incomplete, so use very carefully.
Based on naming patterns, this James is thought to be the father of Jane, on whom most of the research has been done, along with her husband, Big Bob Ealy. An autosomal DNA test links one of Jane & Big Bob's descendants to a descendant of another Parrott family that also originated in Rockingham county, and thus is thought to be related to the family in Lunenburg county. This scenario is consistent with a Parrott-- probably William Jr. or Sr. -- having fathered James Ishmeal. However, a Y-DNA test is still required to determine if the Lunenburg county Parrotts have any male descendants among their slaves' descendants.

She was united in holy matrimony to Orie Branson in 1937. To this union three children were born. Lessie was a faithful and loving wife for over sixty years. Orie preceded her in death.
Lessie received her formal education in the public schools of Madison County. She received her undergraduate college degree from Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, Mississippi. She received her graduate degree from Alabama A & M University in Huntsvilles, Ala.
She spent thirty four years of employment with the Canton Public School System as a teacher and librarian before her retirement.
She loved gardening, shopping, traveling, her home and her family.
She also devoted many years as a caregiver to her mother until she passed away at the age of 100.
Lessie peacefully transitioned on June 14, 2016 at Traditions Nursing Home in Lithonia, Ga., where she has resided since 2008.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Everett (Julia) Branson of Chicago, Ill.; Roger Branson of Kankakee, Ill.; Yvonne Sampson of Decatur, Ga.; One sister, Ora Douglass of Seattle, Wash., and one brother Wade (Juanita) Parrott of Canton, Miss.; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Parrott was the son of the late Ary Parrott and Mrs. Addie Mae Parrott. He was a member of Cedar Grove M.B. Church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Doris Mitchell Parrott, Lena; two sisters, Mrs. Rosie Mae Norris and Mrs. Loucille Casey, both of Gulfport; one brother, Rufus Parrott, of New Orleans; three daughters, Mrs. Diann McCarty, Forest; Mrs. JoAnn Boyd, Carthage; Miss Edena Parrott, Lena; one son, Henry Earl Parrott, Lena; of his first marriage, sons Edward Parrott, Ohio, and Virgus Parrott, Germany.
