Biographical highlights

  • 24 February 1650: Becomes 'the first Man Child that was gott and born in Rappahannock River of English parents'
  • 1666: Richard Jr. and his father are returned from England
  • 3 February 1667: Witness to the will of John Edward.
  • 24 February 1672: Comes of age at 21. Comes into possession of the 800 acres he inherited from his half-brother Thomas Dale at age 9
  • 11 November 1672: Marries Sarah (Curtis) Halfhead, receiving additional land from his father beforehand
  • 1 October 1673: Patents land in Worcester county Maryland (=Delaware), where his father had sent him to secure a land patent
  • 1673: Named to the county court, then appointed to the vestry
  • 1678: Forfeited all personal property, servants and cattle rather than pay a bill of £112 sterling
  • 1678: Sued by John Shepherd, minister, for salary Richard had collected in his role as sheriff, but had not passed on.
  • 1684: Defaulted on a bill, lost most of his land to Robert Beverly
  • - Never got to sit with his fellow justices in court again
    - Stopped appearing at vestry meetings
    - Stopped getting called upon for public works, until later in his life
  • 1686: Father, Richard Sr., leaves Richard Jr. out of his will
  • 1694: Death. On January 7, 1694/5, the court ordered that his son Henry be paid for funeral charges (Middlesex Order Book 3, 1694-1705 p. 8).

Below are the known Parrott and Parrett descendants of Richard Parret, Jr. An estimated 3000 descendants thought to still be alive as of this date have been excluded from the list. Many branches still remain to be discovered and attached to their proper place in the tree. Even so, it is safe to conclude this family is the largest of the Parro/ett families in the US accounting for about 1 out of every 5 Parrotts in the US. This family has a distinctive Y-DNA profile in its Y chromosome, making it easy to distinguish Richard's descendants from other families that use the same surname.

1. Richard Parrott Jr. son of Richard Perrot Sr. and Sarah Keye, was born on 24 Feb 1649/50 in Rappahannock River, Virginia and died in 1694 in Middlesex Co., Virginia at age 44.

Richard married Sarah Curtis, daughter of Thomas Curtis and Averilla Unknown, on 11 Feb 1673 in Virginia. Sarah was born on 16 Aug 1657 in Ware Parish, Gloucester Co., Virginia and died on 26 Dec 1693 in Virginia at age 36.

   2 M    i. Henry Parrott was born on 25 Jan 1675/76 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia and died about 1705 about age 30.

Henry married Penelope Unknown about 1695. They had no children.

   3 F    ii. Frank Parrott was born on 28 Aug 1677 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia.

General Notes: This maybe Frances instead of Frank, if it is Frances the sex is female.

   4 F    iii. Sarah Parrott was born on 21 Sep 1679 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia.

General Notes: Sarah was granted administration of her husband's estate on 6 July 1714, but relinquished the right on 3 August 1714. The estate was so small, the court ordered the sheriff to sell the property. On 7 September 1714, the sheriff reported the sale of pigs and hogs.

Sarah married Paul Thilman about 1697. Paul died on 14 Mar 1713/14.

Sarah next married Edmond Hammerton on 10 Feb 1713/14.

Sarah next married Humphrey Jones on 21 Jul 1720.

   5 M    iv. Richard Parrott III was born on 5 Oct 1681 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia and died on 11 Jan 1733/34 at age 52.

Richard lived in Middlesex Co but owned 35 acres in Kingston Gloucester Co. 1704

Richard married Sarah Pitts on 15 Jan 1704/05 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., Virginia. Sarah died on 15 Mar 1715/16.

   6 F    v. Averilla Parrott was born on 3 Aug 1683 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia and died on 7 Feb 1719/20 at age 36.

Averilla Perrott: Baptism, 28 Sept 1683, Christ Church, Middlesex Co., VA

Averilla married Joseph Hardee about 1703. Joseph was born in 1680 in England and died on 28 Mar 1729 in Middlesex Co., Virginia at age 49.

   7 M    vi. Robert Parrott Sr. was born on 25 Oct 1685 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., Virginia, was christened on 26 Nov 1685 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., Virginia, died on 9 Aug 1723 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., Virginia at age 37, and was buried on 11 Aug 1723 in Middlesex Co., Virginia.

General Notes:

Robert married Catherine Daniel, daughter of William Daniel and Jochabed Smith, on 25 Mar 1706 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia. Catherine was born about 1685 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., Virginia and died on 16 Feb 1734/35 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., Virginia about age 50.

   8 M    vii. Curtis Parrott Sr. was born on 19 Aug 1688 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia and died on 14 May 1738 at age 49.

Letters of administration on his estate were granted to Curtis Perrott Sept 2, 1740. His estate was divided October 5, 1740

Curtis married Anne Daniel, daughter of William Daniel and Jochabed Smith, on 3 Sep 1714. Anne was born about 1689 and died on 16 Nov 1739 in Middlesex Co., Virginia about age 50.

   9 F    viii. Mary Parrott was born on 16 Jan 1689/90 in Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Virginia and died on 10 Sep 1733 in Ashley, Hampshire, England at age 43.
