The Parrett Mountain School

The Parrett Mountain School

Henry Parrett arrived in Oregon in 1853 aboard the British ship Josephine. Along with his two brothers William and Samuel, Henry settled adjacent land claims on Wild Horse Mountain, known today as Parrett Mountain. Henry remained a bachelor for many years, diligently improving his land claim and building his farm. In 1867 his heart was finally won over and he married Martha Jane Ellison Ashpole. Henry soon set about replacing his cabin with a proper house for his new bride. I have few details about the school built nearby but the children listed on this photograph include Bertha, Ella and Robert Parrett, who are likely to have been grand children or other close relatives of the 3 brothers.
